TORONTO NEIGHBOURHOOD GUIDE

THE DANFORTH

Pape in the west to Woodbine in the east, from Danforth Avenue up to just north of Milverton Boulevard, the Danforth is a thriving rectangular area that sits either side of the road it is named after. Primarily a Greek neighbourhood, it is filled with residences and plentiful cafes, restaurants and bars. It’s easily accessible via the TTC’s Yonge and Bloor line, with buses catering to north-south transportation.

REAL ESTATE IN THE DANFORTH

Real estate in The Danforth mainly consists of semi-detached Victorian properties, bungalows, and low rise apartment buildings.  Danforth is home to residents of varied economic status as well as cultural backgrounds. Many young families and first time buyers have made this neighbourhood their home.

LIVING IN THE DANFORTH

The Only Cafe has served craft beers in a friendly eclectic environment for over 30 years. While there is a plethora of traditional Greek eateries, the neighbourhood also serves up Indian food at Makkah, Ethiopean at Wazema and Lalibela, and there’s a vibrant Mexican Art Cafe for lighter fare. Or taste all the flavours at once – many of these local gems participate in the annual Taste of the Danforth summer food festival.

Danforth Bowl is a vintage bowling alley serving snacks and beverages – and not just to kids thanks to the popular Rock and Roll night bowling. On the west side, the library hosts programs for babies, toddlers and kids of all ages, and lets you borrow CDs and DVDs. For outdoor adventure, the area is dotted with parkettes and The Cyclepath bike store can kit you out to explore on two wheels.
